First I must apologize for not posting for a whole month. It has been a busy time, I’ve been down in Big Turban Country dealing with both the big and small details of rolling out a complex education project. There are days that I fall asleep in my clothes at 7 pm after days full of mind work.
There have been some donations coming in and I have to say “thanks” for these. Unexpected and very useful. Thanks to all of those who are thinking of the kids and teachers here and are digging deep to support our work. These days our efforts are supporting a computer lab in Ghazni for girls who are studying extra math and science so to boost their understanding. SIO is proud to bring the internet free to the girls and to support 2 IT teachers to teach the students how to use computers.
Desperation can exist anywhere where there are disenfranchised people. In Boston Mayor Menino put out a general call to the public to be aware of homeless people who chose to remain on the street instead of availing themselves of a shelter. It’s hard to imagine that the margin between life and death, when the temp. drops to -4F, is a cardboard box. So, Menino asks the public to call 911 when they come across a homeless person who seems determined to stay outdoors. Sounds sort of intrusive, but suppose there was no 911, and the person was found dead in the street in the morning. Makes me look at how we live, how many houses there are lining the street, and the smoke curling from all of their chimneys. God, what it must be like to live in a culture where those amenities don’t even exist. Keep warm. Let us know what you need for yourself.
